Belt Ranks

These are the belt ranks at Zenbudo Dojo. Color belts start at White “10 Kyu” down to Brown Belt with a black stripe in the middle “1 Kyu”.

At the rank of 3 Kyu, you will receive your first certificate from Okinawa, and be listed under Sensei CJ’s lineage of Seidokan Karate.

Jun Shodan is a special black belt that is given to those that are age 14 and under. “Jun Shodan” means Semi-Shodan, or Junior Shodan. The test is the same for Jun Shodan and Shodan. To transition from Jun Shodan to Shodan, the instructor will have the student demonstrate leadership, technique technicality, and demonstrate a kata outside of the curriculum they are working on. Once 15 years of age, and other requirements are met, then Shodan will be awarded.

At the rank of Shodan, you will then become a member of the RSKKR, and receive the organization “Ryu Koku” patch.

In Seidokan, instructors are able to grade up to Yon Dan (4th Degree). Beyond that will be determined by the RSKKR based on involvement and contribution to Seidokan.

In Okinawa, the tradition is only the Headmaster of a system will be a 10 Dan. For Seidokan, our current Headmaster is Ron Nix.
